From your first appointment through to recovery, your care is personal, calm, and fully supported. Your history, scans, and symptoms are carefully reviewed in a private, respectful setting, with time taken to truly listen to your concerns.
We then talk through what happens next — whether that means further tests, treatment options, or simple reassurance — always in clear, easy-to-understand language.
If surgery is needed, you’ll be guided step-by-step, cared for on the day, and supported with thoughtful follow-up, with our team always available to answer questions and ease any worries.
We understand how anxious needing a referral to a Surgeon can be for our patients, so we aim to keep wait times as short as possible.
Urgent referrals are prioritised promptly.
Private, uninsured, and public patient options* are available, and we will help guide you through the most suitable pathway for your circumstances with clarity and honesty. (*not all conditions, procedures and/or patients are suitable for peripheral hospital procedures. This is determined during consultation.)
Your consultation takes place in Ballarat, with pathology, radiology, and both major hospitals conveniently located nearby. Free onsite parking is available for patients at the rear of the Clinic.
You’ll receive clear appointment instructions before your visit, and our friendly team is always happy to help with any questions to make your visit to our Clinic easy and stress-free.
To receive a rebate from Medicare, yes you do! A referral from your GP or specialist helps us understand your condition and ensures you are booked into the most appropriate appointment for your care and you are able to access eligible rebate benefits from Medicare.
Not always. Many conditions can be managed without surgery. All options will be discussed with you carefully so you can make a confident, informed decision.
Mr Mathew Jacob is a privately practising Specialist, and consultations at our clinic are provided on a private basis. Consultation fees apply, with payment required on the day of your appointment.
Our team will submit your receipt to Medicare on your behalf so any eligible rebate is processed directly to you, usually within 24–48 hours. All consultation fees will be clearly discussed when your appointment is booked.
Mr Mathew Jacob also holds a public appointment within the Colorectal and Robotic Department of the public health system. Where appropriate, we can assist uninsured patients to access public services at no cost.
Private health insurance is not mandatory and is not required for consultations or in-room procedures. It does not contribute to the cost of these services.
However, having private health insurance can make a difference for hospital treatment options and costs, giving you more flexibility and choice in your healthcare. While it’s not necessary, it can provide additional options and freedoms to choose how you receive your care.
We take time to explain things clearly and encourage you to ask questions at any point — your understanding matters. You will have direct contact to Mat Jacob’s personal secretary for those questions you think about once you get home. If required, we can schedule additional telephone consultations for reassurance.
You are welcome to bring along friends, family or any other support persons you wish to attend your appointments with you. It’s a good idea to write down any questions you have prior to your appointment and bring this along on the day.
